Normally I would organize these thoughts in something a bit more uniform, but I concluded this convo I had with Lidia should be more than adequate:

Diamondback Jun: so can i tell you the most annoying thing that happened at mckeldin this past week?

Diamondback Jun: basically in a nutshell, they restricted access on the circ desk computers, and now the only web sites we can access are the ones that end in umd.edu

Diamondback Jun: NOTHING ELSE

Diamondback Jun: not even google, not even washpost

Diamondback Jun: it is the most annoying thing ever

Diamondback Jun: and what sucks about it the most, is that they didn't tell any of the student employees that they were going to do t his

Diamondback Jun: usually if something is going wrong, or they have any kind of concern, they will contact all the employees by emailing the listserve and address it there

Diamondback Jun: and the fact that they didn't even do that, but just got rid of it without telling anyone when or why is pissing me off

Diamondback Jun: to the point where if i AM able to find somewhere else to intern that pays next semester, that will be enough to push me to finally quit there

krayzielidzie: that is shady

krayzielidzie: can you email then throught the lisstserv?

Diamondback Jun: right now i'm only on the student listserv

Diamondback Jun: but supervisors have access to an all staff and student one

Diamondback Jun: they use ours to basically tell us what ppl are screwing up doing at the front desk

Diamondback Jun: and the other thing that pisses me off about them complaining about stuff is that there's a highlevel of turnover at the circ desk anyway

Diamondback Jun: which means you're getting a lot of people who barely know the checkout system and who make errors, frequently

Diamondback Jun: which is fine, i'm not knocking that because they're not going to be perfect, however those people don't stay on long enough to actually improve and stop making those simple errors

Diamondback Jun: ultimately they leave

Diamondback Jun: but the damage is already done

Diamondback Jun: and the ppl who've been working there for ages are the ones who take the fall for it

Diamondback Jun: now THAT has been happening for a while, but I don't see anyone addressing that

Diamondback Jun: they just figure slapping on more restrictions is the answer

Diamondback Jun: sorry, i've just been really pissed about this for a while

krayzielidzie: i felt the same way at the bookstore

krayzielidzie: somewhat

krayzielidzie: i can believe its been building up

krayzielidzie: i believe you can talk to the supervisor though

krayzielidzie: and yeah, hopefully find a paying internship

Diamondback Jun: yeah, but now it's just this added pressure of finding one that kinda sucks

Diamondback Jun: like i was already stressed about it

Diamondback Jun: and now that this happens, i want to get out of there even more

Diamondback Jun: i didn't have MAJOR concerns with them, but i think if they were willing to do that without telling anyone, what's to say they won't do it again?

Diamondback Jun: esp since i'm there for like 8 hr stretches at a time behind a desk

Diamondback Jun: ithe library is not the union food court, it's not going to be busy all the time, lol
